Carole R. Myers, PhD, RN, FAAN

Dr. Carole R. Myers is a Professor in the College of Nursing at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. Myers is a leader in the use of policy, advocacy, and media to promote population health, including healthcare access, rural health, Medicaid, and APRN full practice authority. Dr. Myers is the creator and co-host of HealthConnections, a radio show on WUOT-FM, the Knoxville NPR-affiliate. Myers blogs, is an avid Tweeter, and author of OpEds and other commentaries. Myers is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, Senior Fellow at the Center for Health Policy and Media Engagement at George Washington University, and a Faculty Policy Fellow with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.

Description
In this webinar, we will introduce the value and utility of media and other communication strategies, and then focus on creating a personal brand and messaging. Messaging is a foundational skill that facilitates agenda-setting, grassroots mobilization, advocacy, and translation and dissemination of research and other scholarly information.

Learning Objectives:
At the end of the session, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe the value of media in disseminating family health scholarship.
  2. Identify foundational messaging strategies for clear communication.
  3. Describe approaches to developing a personal brand for one’s scholarship.
Target Audience:
The target audience for this webinar is family nurses and family health scholars who wish to hone their skills in messaging related to their practice, research, and scholarship. It is appropriate for novice, intermediate, and expert scholars.
